Fashion Is More Than Fashion, When Less Is More

In practice, and refers to the need to fashion trends are changing with the change of seasons lost in the chaos of a consumer culture. Or that the process of what is and is not suitable for the cold, has become something very complex human being. Ten years ago, the clothing is suitable for the cold to hit all the major shops of the first real step in the cold season. Rush of all the shops are ready for the new season clothing customers were involved in widespread advertising to remind people that their wardrobes need to change again. However, the consumption side of the thrust of the change in weather clothes were mostly adequate.

In 2011, however, and with winter just past, we have "reached" a new era in fashion. Clothes are clothes, with women as the primary audience. Ads of human intelligence with simulation models coats, no pants, sweaters with shorts. Now, with an ad on a bus reading "jegging" with the image of a young girl of only Jean-leggings, arms over his bare chest.

Tops and dresses are random patches of tissue defects in a number of areas. To dress is to cover, so what should we call these new clothes? Modesty and morality aside, what clothes to serve such practical purposes, except for warmth? It is essential that clothes are progressively more and more revealing, said that people of previous generations? That they were surpassed, back, covered unnecessarily? Or maybe the human species has evolved and we now have a thicker skin.

Even if our society through television, newspapers and other media idealize women revealing - even more - the same courtesy is not given to women who want to hide, as Muslim women.

It is a spectrum of disapproval that Muslim women, criticized the choice of cover, said they are repressed, and sometimes the recipient to open hostilities. Also, do not have a say in those women who attack their social space, where the clothes that leave little to the imagination. Both Muslims and non-Muslim women have told me that they are made to feel uncomfortable with women who dress inappropriately. However, our society does not recognize this claim.

Not only are Muslim women, an unfortunate way to put to rest many of the women dress, which have been made to swallow the negative comments the way they dress. Because we, the preachers of freedom and democracy, are these double standards?

We are bombarded with the message of fashion. However, too much the fashion conscious can be its ability to think. We are taught to forget that we are more than mere animals, who live in their units of basic survival, food, water, shelter, sleep, and increasing. We have free will and the ability to make choices.

This is what we also forget the big picture behind the consumer, such as materialism, capitalism and secularism, which constitute the step behind the fashion industry. Materialism teaches us to focus on the material, is the here and now. "We only live once," we are told. Capitalism encourages us to continue to consume regardless of our actual needs, "you want to convert a meal?" We asked. Secularism teaches us to distinguish the religious ideology of our daily lives. "Who needs religion when we have the science and technology?" We are constantly reminded.

At a time when we are apparently at the forefront of technology and science, fashion industry is not fulfilling its obligation to women with simple clothes. At the basic level, fashion is costing women their comfort and warmth in cold climates. At a higher level is removing women from their rights to dignity and respect as individuals, as members of society and not as sex objects or as a means of trade. If the lack of clothing was positively correlated with the level of progress and superiority, the animals must be on top of the hierarchy.

However, there is hope for us. Luckily and thankfully, we are neither stupid nor mean to be born stupid. So let's put our brains to use. Let's ask the question instead of blindly accepting. We will bring rather than follow. Let's take the power that we as individuals have a democratic society and work for positive change for the good of ourselves and our fellow citizens.
